Eric E. McLauchlin, Esquire has been practicing law in Harford County since 1995 and is a founding partner of Shaffer, McLauchlin & Stover, LLC. He graduated summa cum laude from Salisbury University and is an honors graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law.
Eric served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Stephen M. Waldron in the Circuit Court for Harford County for one year prior to beginning a career assisting clients in a broad general practice that included business matters, contracts, civil litigation, real estate development, estate planning, estate administration and employment law.
Fifteen years later, Eric and his law partners formed Shaffer, McLauchlin & Stover, LLC in order to concentrate on the practice areas they truly enjoy. Eric’s current practice includes advice on business formation, structures, sales, complex contracts, mergers and acquisitions. Eric represents businesses in a wide variety of industries including health care, technology, professional services, nonprofits and restaurants. He routinely assists with governmental relations between his clients, Harford County, its municipalities and their many agencies, particularly where economic development efforts are concerned. Eric also assists business clients with their day-to-day obligations such as employment law, employment policies and handbooks, wage and hour compliance, overtime issues and restrictive employment covenants.
As a compliment to the business services he provides, Eric advises individuals, families and business owners on estate planning issues, including wills, trusts, wealth preservation and succession management. When life-changing events do occur, Eric assists business owners and their families to administer the plans that have been put in place for their protection. He does so, not just with technical skill, but with compassion for how complex and emotional those processes can be.
Eric is broadly involved in economic and workforce development efforts within the region. He was several times appointed to and for over ten years served as the Chairperson of the Harford County Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB). Eric is a past President of the Board of Directors for the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and has served in leadership roles on its Board, Executive Committee and Legislative Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Army Alliance and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Route 40 Business Association, the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council (NMTC) and the Aberdeen branch of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA). Eric has served on the Board of Directors of the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House and the Harford County Sheriff’s Foundation. He is the former Chairperson of the Harford County Family Branch Board of the YMCA and was its 2003 volunteer of the year.
